Welcome to Telegraph Fantasy Rugby, our exciting Rugby World Cup 2019 game that will test your selection skills to the limit.
As a Telegraph Fantasy Rugby manager, your task is simple - assemble a team of 15 players to score you fantasy points based on their performances in the upcoming tournament in Japan.
You can pick up to five free Telegraph Fantasy Rugby teams and you can change your line-ups as much as you like right up to the first kick-off at 11.45am on Friday, September 20 (today).
After that, you will have 40 transfers and 15 captain changes - the skipper scores you double points - to use during the pool stages with a further 15 transfers and three captain changes becoming available for the knockout stages.
Do you pick based on reputation, like the majority will, or do you try to separate yourself from the rest by taking a gamble on a lesser light in the hope they will surprise us all?
Do you pick predominantly All Blacks or Springboks; Englishmen, Irishmen or Scotsmen? Or is there a Fijian, Japanese or Russian very few else will have who could make all the difference?
There is no limit to the number of players you can select from any one country, but each team of XV must fall within the £100 million budget and include:
- 1 hooker
- 2 props
- 2 locks
- 3 back rows
- 1 scrum-half
- 1 fly-half
- 2 centres
- 3 outside backs
Before you dive in, a reminder: don't think it's all about selecting try-scorers. To win this game you're going to have to do your homework. You will also earn points for tackles made, assists, metres gained, defenders beaten, turnovers won, lineouts stolen...
To keep track of how you are doing, you will be able to see your score and league position on the game site shortly after the completion of each match.
And as there are no overlapping kick-off times at the Rugby World Cup, you can make transfers between matches on each day. However, any unused transfers during the pool stage will not be carried over into the knockout stages. Use them or lose them!
There will also be a second transfer amnesty in between the pool and knockout stages.
So what are you waiting for, get picking!
By registering a fantasy team, not only will you be adding to the excitement of the Rugby World Cup, you'll also be in with a chance of winning £5k, receive regular Telegraph Fantasy Sports updates and your account will give you access to our panel of unrivalled RWC experts, including Danny Care, Jamie Roberts, Brian Moore, Sir Ian McGeechan, Austin Healey, Maggie Alphonsi and Will Greenwood.
